Blizzard is even applying new updates to Starcraft 1, Diablo 2, and Warcraft 3 this year. The only 'officially dead' Blizzard games so far are Diablo 1 and Warcraft 1 and 2 as those are the only ones no longer being updated or sold. This game is dead. We are all ghosts. StarCraft 2 is going to free to play later this month (Updated) By Andy Chalk 2017-11-03T18:29:44.306Z Wings of Liberty, online modes, and three commanders will be completely free for everyone. That StarCraft 2 eSports still exist at the scale they do should indicate that the game's most irrationally committed, die-hard fans are located in Irvine, California.
It's a very good video but I think the title itself is a turnoff for most people. 'Dead Game' is usually looked at more as an obnoxious meme than an actual debate topic these days and there's a certain eye-rolling reaction that comes with seeing it in the title of any forum thread, even if the purpose is debunking the concept.Right now, 'dead game' is out-of-style while anything capitalizing on Blizzard's recent PR stumbles over mobile gaming and budget cuts are almost guaranteed to attract attention.Still, I'm impressed by the presentation and there is certainly no shortage of Starcraft topics that need to be examined and clarified. I'm looking forward to checking out more content from your YouTube channel!. I only came here because I expected there to be an uproar about the title.
I do one mouse-wheel scroll down and what do I see? You guessed it! I never understood the nerve it strikes with many in the community. Most people use it facetiously or ironically to actually emphasize how it basically refuses to, or possibly, CAN'T 'die.'
But I digress.I am a die-hard SC (all) nerd. I have been playing it as my primary game since March 31, 1998 (guess when it was first released?). The game is a fucking unicorn. You don't find franchises that are going this strong decades down the line. In today's gaming climate I cannot believe an R-fuckin-T-S!
Is still this big. That genre was thought to have more or less 'died.' I guess in that case SC is even more precious: it's a T-Rex strolling down Park Avenue.People being 'turned off' by the MERE USE (admittedly placing judgment without deeper context whatsoever) of the 'ded gaem' talk screams insecurity to me. As if the simple use of the term.gasp. MIGHT MAKE THE CASUAL READER THINK IT'S TRUE!It's totally fair to use the term and discuss it in a mature way. For whatever reasons, it does have a peripheral, relatively insignificant, yet undeniably present little corner in starcraft's recent history.
Starcraft 2 Dead 2019
For those like me who can take a step back, look at the big picture, and still marvel, in pure awe, that THE GAME that was a major pillar of my childhood experience and continues to be a significant part of my life as I approach 30 years old. We see folks either just jokingly or erroneously use the term, smile, and just proceed to:a. Appreciate how immortal this game has proven to beb.

Fire up the manager, crack our knuckles real good, search for matchmaking. I don't feel like this video covers any new ground or 'ends the discussion'. There was never any real discussion about SC2 being dead amongst people who knew what they were talking about.I still feel like no one has done a proper analysis on the playerbase in all aspects.

Activity, race distribution, MMR distribution, profile data, etc. It's something I've started but haven't got around to completing since it's a thankless job and I have had more important things to do. Hopefully I'll manage to finish it sometime next year. SC2 still has it's playerbase but the mainstream is completely over it.
Nobody on youtube cares about starcraft anymore, there's not as many streamers on twitch, the best you get are the occasional tournaments and the like 3-5 people that still make sc2 content on youtube. It's never gonna be as fun and excitin as it was back in the day sadly. In the days of WOL when sc2 was on top of the world and actually relevant.
Sc2 on it's own will take a LONG time before it becomes dead to the point where barely anyone plays it, but it has no place for content creators anymore. We will never have another HuskyStarcraft, another RootDestiny, another Deezer, Day9, or IdrA or any of the people that made the game more interestin.
